Media Production: Shutter speed
Shutter speeds controls and measures for what legnth of time the lens allows light to pass through it in order to take a picture. The higher the shutter speed, the faster the shutter opens and closes. They also control the movement and sharpness of the photo.
Using a faster shutter speed allows you to control and freeze the image of a moving subject in order to capture the photo without having a giant blur. For example a moving car or motorbike would require a shutter speed of 1/4000.
We use a slower shutter speed when the light is very low and we have very little natural light. For example a person walking would need a shutter speed of 1/250
IOS is in charge of increasing the cameras sensitivity of light this is used when pictures are coming out black. If this happens we must change the IOS to around 800.
Examples of photos i took using shutter speed.
This photo was created in a dark room with next to no natural light we used a white wall to give emphasis to the photo. I used a very slow shutter speed of 6" seconds. I used a very slow shutter speed in order to create the name toni.

Example of a fast shutter speed.
For this photo i used 1/400 to capture the fast moving vehicles. I chose to take this photo as there was not just one moving object but 4 vehicles which were moving in different speeds which I could test to see wether the shutter speed i was using would work to capture all four moving vehicles. This photo is very sharp and captured the movement quite well I find.
