Photoshop Skills

Text control	x		I used this tool to move text either closer together or further apart I also used it to change size and shape of the text for magazine front cover

Layers	x		Layers used in Photoshop in order to make sure each layer was changeable and doesn’t effect the real image this is of great help as it make it easier to create a professional front cover if there were no layers it would be difficult to edit as the changes would effect the rest of the factors on the page.
Opacity control	x		Makes a block colour more transparent I used this for my slash at the bottom right hand corner which had my main sell line on it I don’t this by creating a shape changing the colour to a mustard yellow and the changing the opacity to make it transparent.
Shape creation	x		Creating shapes for front cover to give a professional effect I used this to create my splash and the boxes behind my sell line “get excited”.
Brightness and contrast control	x		Changing the contrast in order to achieve the best colour and quality for my photos which I then used for my final product but I also used this for other products during the year.

Load selection features	x		Mostly used for my magazine. I used this in order to put the model on front of magazine front cover title to give the impression that she is the most dominant.

Cropping tool	x		Cropping out imperfections such as background imperfections this was used quite a lot throughout the year if I wanted to just have one person on the photo or I didn’t like something in the corner of the image I cropped it out to put the main focus on what the image was about.
Clone tool	x		I used this tool in order to change the colour of glasses to get rid of the shine for what I was going to use as the main image for my front cover.
Retouch tool	x		I used this tool quiet a lot through out the year the first main exercise I used it for was getting rid of spots and blemishes for Zoe as seen on my blog but I also used it on my main image to get rid of blemishes on my own photos for my final product.
Other skills Stroke tool Warp tool Doge and burn Margin guides			All these other skills I used to edit and perfect the image I had taken for all exercise’s we had to do in order to achieve the best quality images. The dodge and the burn tool I used in the vampire tutorial in order to alter her teeth and change the colour of her face.

In Design Skills

Which of the following features of In Design have you used before:

Have you ever used In design ever before?	x		I have now used InDesign in order to create my double page spread for my final product. I used all the settings I have marked bellow in order to create a professional looking magazine. I also used it earlier on in the year to create a mock Double page spread in order to get used to the settings and what they did for my final product.
Margin and column guide creation	x		I used this to create the 4 main columns on my Double page spread this helped my to keep the text in line and avoided having too much text on the page. It also made it easier as I could link up the boxes so that when I pasted my article in it automatically linked itself to the next box which saved me a lot of time and hassle.
Inserting an image ID	x		I used this to insert my images for both double page spreads. I first had to export the image from Photoshop and then insert the edited image into my article on InDesign.
Resizing images in ID	x		This can be a challenge at times but I used this to change the size of my images so that it fit in well in my double page spread. I had to ensure that the girl on both sides was proportional to one another in order to give it a professional look. After inserting the image sometimes they can out extremely large and you had to fit it down to size I mainly don’t this my clicking fit to frame.
Text manipulation – resizing, rotation	x		I used this often in both my double page spreads. On my final product I used it for the main title of the page in order to put the P’s on top of one another to create the effect I wanted, I used it for the enlarged quotation throughout the article and further more I used it for the drop cap to kick of my article and for the numbers of each step.

Other Skills

Vampire toutorial.

This is my editorial for my vampire image. I used the image given to us and change the colouring of the face using the lasso and sponge tool in order to give the face the grey colouring. I ensured to do this in small strokes other ´wise the face went a transparent strange colour and didnt give a realistic effect. I then had to add the fangs I used the the warp tool in order to extend her teeth to give the effect of fangs. I enhanced the redness of her lips to give the blood effect. I then used the burn tool to add shadow to underneath the eyes and around the face to give the death effect.

Other types of photography i have done throughout the year.

 these are some examples of photos I took whilst in Belfast this year. The model Daniel is standing against some of the best known graffiti in Belfast. I chose these photos as i feel they have character but also incorporates different characteristic and examples of style of photography. This first image i find interesting as neither of the characters are looking directly at the camera it is an example of a medium long shot. I also used a slight tilt downward to show the inferiority of Daniel compared to this large famous piece of art.

 This image I find interesting as it has many effect on the viewer first we are attracted to look at Daniel and his bright colours compared to the vast contrast of vibrant colours which are in the background. we are then attracted to look at the images behind him , the arrow above his head then moves the viewer to follow the line of the writing which is getting smaller into the distance and aligns with the curving of the wall and the last thing we find ourselves looking at is the empty bottle of whiskey shitting in the far end of the photo and although this is not the main or biggest object in the photo we are attracted to it due to the slant and curve created by the writing and the wall. This photo is also an example of medium long shot.

 This last image is a very busy photo and has alot going on in the background. Daniel is frames by the two buildings and the long street which stretches off into the distance behind him but we are then drawn back to him by the green post behind him. the flags in the top hand corner as mid flight and are blowing in the wind. There is a lot of movement been captures in this photo in contrast to the mobile position of Daniel.

 This is an example of a medium shot of a bunch of fully blommed flowers in a garden of weeds this took my attention whilst in the forest so i decided to take this photo.

 This is am example of an extreme close up this is of my four year old cousin Jenna who loved to be photographed this photo shows great detail of her eyes and eyelashes and half of her mouth. There is a shadow on one half of her face which creates an interesting effect and add to the photo. This photo was not taken for media but Jenna sadly passed away last year and I though this photo has quite an interesting view and angle so I decided to add it to my blog.

 some examples of medium closeups.

 this is an example of framing the lines of the bushes attract our attention to the model and the triangular shape of the the building keeps us focused on the middle of the photo aka the girl standing there. 

 This is an example of a ling shot as we can see the model but can also see a great deal of the background.

 this is an example of a medium long shot and a slight use of tilt. This is once again using the rule of thirds.

 extreme close up this is used to emphasis certain features of a charater in this case the way in which her eyes and eyebrows curve and the lady bug on her forehead. 

 this is an example of a medium shot as you cannot see to the wait line therefore it cannot be classes as a medium long shot.

 this is an example of a medium close up. this can also be seen as rule of thirds as her eye line matches with the line of the landscape in the background behind her. I have also blurred the background in order to create effect.

 this is am example of a close up.

 this ia an action shot i used shutter speed in order to capture her jumping but to keep the image sharp.

 This is an example of a medium shot as you can see up to the shoulders of both girls i added a flower to enhance the colour which contrast with the blond hair and the vibrant green background it is also at eye level which if use for a magasine you make the viewer feel directly spoken and looked at.

 this is an example of a focused and unfocused image were you can see some flowers and the girls in focuse but other parts of the image have been blurred.

There are many example of diffrent types of photos here between zoom, medium close up, perspective, focus and unfocused images, action shots, framed shots and many more i took these in order to practise the skills i learnt throughout the year.
